For those who are keen!;)
This came thru via my local club (SASI) a day or so ago. I know a similar position was advertised a year or so ago.
Telescope Operator/Technical Specialist
Anglo-Australian Observatory
$43,799 - $73,476 per annum
AAT, Coonabarabran, NSW
Applications are invited for two positions of Telescope Operator at the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO). The AAO is one of the world's leading astronomical facilities and operates 2 major optical telescopes, the 3.9m Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) and the 1.2m United Kingdom Schmidt Telescope (UKST) at Siding Spring Mountain, near Coonabarabran, 480km north-west of Sydney. Coonabarabran is a progressive town with a modern high school, hospital and medical centre in an attractive rural setting close to the Warrumbungle National Park.
The AAO is seeking Telescope Operators to work on the AAT. The primary responsibilities of these positions are the night-time control of the telescope and to assist astronomers in operating the instruments for collecting astronomical data. There is also a day-time component to these positions which will depend on the qualifications of the successful applicants.
The successful applicants will have knowledge of basic scientific principles and demonstrate good problem solving skills. A basic knowledge of astronomy is also useful. Candidates are sought with skills in any of the following areas; mechanical engineering (CAD), electronics, optics.
The appointments are for an indefinite term; include relocation assistance and an attractive superannuation scheme.
In order to apply you need to obtain the employment information package and follow its guidelines. You can obtain the package by telephoning Rhonda Martin (02) 6842-6291 or by downloading it from http://www.aao.gov.au/jobs
