Well waddya think of the new Doctor

Watched the new Dr Who last saturday and can't make up my mind whether I liked it or not. I will keep watching though. What did you think??

Sorry Phil but I only ever watched the 1st series. About 35 years ago!!

I have never seen it since and never seen any of the other doctors.

Not that I don't like it. I enjoyed the original series, Iv'e just never gotten around to watching it since then.

I was never a real fan of the old series. I really enjoyed the first episode and I'm looking forward to the next one!

Not too sure yet either. Living plastic?? This first episode seemed to be aimed at a younger audience, but I guess time will tell. I used to love the old Tom Baker episodes.
The preview of this Saturday nights episode looked pretty good.

I think I remember the living plastic episode from the original series. Loved the early stuff - 30 years later the new one seems like a bit of brain relaxing fun as well.

The darlecks use to scare the living beejesus out of me.

I was sceptical of whether the new series would capture the same off-beatness of the original, but I am very pleased to say that I think it has captured it perfectly.

The thing about the living plastic (nesting consciousness) is that it is NOT meant to be taken seriously. There has always been a certain over-the-topness about the stories in Dr Who. It is intended that we laugh as we watch a rollicking yarn, with only the slightest suggestion that we should take it seriously. The new Dr Who captures this perfectly; he is constantly taking the micky out of situations, and seems only half interested in saving the world each episode.

Rose, the Dr's new female side-kick, has a hilariously dysfunctional mother..her attempts to seduce the Dr in episode one was consistent with her total self-obsession, yet total lack of self awareness.

Episode 2, the end of the world reaches it high point in its critique of the self-absorbed human species, which has gone so far with surgical nips and tucks that it has ended up virtually a blank canvas...a white sheet of flesh with minimal facial features only. Perhaps as a matter of poetic justice, "sheet woman" dies by her skin drying out for lack of care from her moisturising nurses, her skin splattering all over the walls.

Each episode gently explores the foibles of human character. I am pleased to see that it is clearly the intention of the new creators that we are to learn more of the private life of the doctor, whom we have learnt is the sole survivor of his entire civilisation. Being a alien, he is able to reflect on his own needs and desires, by contrasting himself to the condition of humans, as verbalised by Rose, who is perfecty cast as an adventurous Miss Ordinary.

I recommend you tape each episode, and watch it twice. The second time is funnier than the first....there is a lot that you can miss with one viewing. My kids love it too....there is no argument over what we are going to watch on Saturday nights (or reruns of Sundays) !!

Anyone on the coast tape it. I was at Marks lat night and missed it. My darling wife taped it but it didn't tape properly for whatever reason and all we got was static :(:(:(
