First night outside in ages, the seeing looked like it might be "ok" for a change.. that is, better than 2-3/10 which is all it has been lately.

But now there's clouds.. intermittent clouds making it even worse.

Trying to capture in sucker holes, but the turbulence up there is definitely ruining things.

I've almost forgotten what Jupiter looks like! :help:

I can appreciate your frustration Mike. It seems like ages since I've had my scope out because of the clouds.... Tonight actually doesn't look too bad - a bit of variable high cloud - but I don't have my truck to take my scope out of town. The deciduous trees in my yard have dropped their leaves so I can't even try to hide behind them to preserve anything like dark adapted vision.:P

Oh well, I'm just playing about with exposures on the moon with my camera as practice for the eclipse next month!:whistle:

Hope you manage to salvage something worthwhile for the evening!

Al.

No clouds up here in SE qld! But your not missing much... just PURRRFECT seeing and a classic waxing moon that is optimal for viewing but that will soon dissapear and leave an ink black sky.

Oh! Is that a cloud I see comming up from the SW?

Spoke to soon :(

Well, here in Brisbane we are enjoying an evening of clear skies, a balmy 12 deg C and seeing of around 6/10.

I’ve got the Mewlon 180 with Vixen x2 Barlow and the DBK plugged in, chugging along outside, capturing a sequence of the Europa shadow transit. I didn’t start until late, so missed most of it, but it is good to be able to image Jupiter once more. The seeing did not support the x3 Barlow, so x2 it will have to be.

I’m using K3CCDTools and not IC Capture, as K3 has that very useful interval timer, although I prefer the user interface of ICC. Hold on, just received a call from the kitchen that there appears to be an error message on the notebook (outside and in line of sight); I bet it’s the dreaded K3 Access Violation message!!!

See ya later!

Although I wrote the above words genuinely full of empathy for you guys down South, and with a deep humility, my actions and intent did not appear to appease the gods.

The bottom has just fallen out of the seeing and K3 seems to think my USB2 eternal HDD is full, when it has over 140Gig free space!

Aghhhhhhhh.

It's clear here but about zero degrees and still too much moon. I won't be staying up waiting for the moon to go as I have to work tomorrow.

We've had a few clear nights here (in Launceston), seeing and transparency has been poor though, I don't even bother going out, I'm not prepared to expose my equipment and lungs to air that can only be described as filthy. :tasdevil:

It's murky as down my way, at the moment you would need a chainsaw to cut yourself a sucker hole.
