Nice report Paul - sounds like you all had a good time. Great to read your observations of the globular clusters - I've just recently observed IC4499 & NGC6256 (glob thread below) so it was interesting to see your notes when viewing them through a much bigger scope.

Thanks. We nearly froze though. There was a lot of jumping up and down on the spot and star jumps conducted to get the blood flow moving.

I rate observing globulars right up there with planetary nebulae. When I stepped up from a 4 1/2 inch telescope to an 8 inch, globular clusters blew me away. Now with more aperture, I try and estimate the globular condensation type and size. There are a remarkable variety of globular cluster types in the Ophiuhcus through to Sagittarius. Map attached

I actually observed some fainter IC galaxies in Apus that night as well, but I didn't record my observations on my dictaphone.

Thanks Paul - yeah, it would be good to see something other than a faint glow!:P Agree that Sag & Oph are really interesting areas of the sky - I've managed to see 42 of the 57 globs in those constellations, but I think I'm about at the limit of my gear (and eyesight!). It would be nice to resolve a few sometime!
