Best snow we have seen for quite some time here in Ballarat, i reckon if it is going to be cold and miserable it might as well be pretty and snow.

It's interesting to note, I had just got off the phone with Michael at Bintel to order an Astronomiks IR/UV Filter when it started snowing.

Geez, the weather Gods are fast!!! The filter won't be here for a day ot two and they are already poo-pooing on my parade

We haven't got it yet...

It's cold, but relatively clear skies ATM... it was cloudier earlier on, but I think it was just a minor band of cloud before the main event...

Yep. It's starting to rain, and with the temp falling very quickly the forecast is that should turn to snow after 9 tonight:D

No not global warming. It's obviously the next ice age which is 2000 years overdue:D

It's currently 6.8 degrees and dropping and the rain has just arrived as well.

It should be an interesting ride to work tomorrow if the snow arrives.

Cheers

It's 1C in Oberon ATM with light cloud. I'm sure it's warmed up since I was out photographing the moon, venus and saturn.

Hey Al.

It's funny how often it feels like it gets warmer just before it snows.

I have noticed this on a number of occasions, especially when I was living in London.

sheeny
17-07-2007, 07:34 PM
Yes, I've noticed it myself! I've always put it down to less humidity in the air so it's a better insulator. I don't know if that's fact or not... just my theory!;)

Now we look for frozen mammoths and bog people from the last ice age. Next millenium they will be discovering frozen amateur astronomers who were waiting up for a transit.

Houghy, I just took a shot of the windows at the back of the house for you to show that the snow is horizontal coz of the strong wind. Those windows are my control room :cold:

Hehehe, it's good to see other parts of the country getting the same sort of tempreatures as Hobart

When we got up this morning we had maybe 2" of snow, but the cold temps meant there was a good solid layer of ice underneath. The road was ice all the way from home to work (about 4ks). Great fun, of course;)... It's been a long time since I seen the roads in town that icy. Just a pity we didn;t get more snow - the conditions would've been excellent for it to lay for a while.

An absolute fizzer, here:(

The day was sunny and comparatively mild compared with yesterday.

Not a single snowflake to be seen, even with the forecast and all the hype we had on the TV and radio.

Would have been nice to be in Orange today. They got some good falls, I hear.

ballaratdragons

Bit of a fizzer here too Matt.

It snowed lightly for most of the night, and by morning the rain turned it to mush. Then the rest of today has been nice and sunny! Now it's freezing cold again and earlier I saw the occasional snowflake, but now it's a starry, but lightly misty, sky.

I'd say that's the end of any snow until another cold front comes through.
