Hey all:

Just took the attached shot using my Canon EOS 300D. It's looking at approx Azm 215 and Alt 49; time was 23.01 tonight, 14 July.

I've identified and noted both Alpha Centauri and Hadar - to the right of Hadar is a nebulous object (marked as "??") that I'm unsure of.....it always shows up in my photos of this area of the sky as sort of misty-looking, so I know it's not atmospheric/weather-related.

Anyone have an idea as to what it is?

Mick,
Zoom in and take a shot of it. I'd love to see how well your camera will resolve all those stars.

Mick, here's the image of Omega Centauri I took tonight. It's comprised of
36 x 3.2 second photos and stacked in DeepSkyStacker.
Because my camera is only on a tripod, I'm limited to very short exposures to avoid trailing. But I was really surprised that it turned out this well.

Hey Ken & Paul:

Many thanks! I use a couple of sky-mapping programs, but really couldn't place the object, for some reason...it's good to know I finally found OC! :D

Thanks, Guys!

That's an awesome stacked shot, Jeanette!

Yep, if skies are clear here tonite, I'll be experimenting with multi-imaging...my camera is also only on a tripod (I've got Canon fever at the moment and my telescope has been relegated to 2nd place in my list of interests!).

My camera does not have an infinity setting, for some strange reason, so I usually focus on Jove at nite to get it....umm, better make that "attempt to get it"....into focus, which usually is a major pain in the patootie....

But, you are doing really well and I'm envious of the quality of your pix, so will have a go at snapping and stacking a bunch of shots.

I'll post the results. Probably. ;)
