Here's a few images I took last night with the Canon Powershot, tripod mounted.
They were all taken at ISO 800.
I used the full 12x zoom on Eta Carina taking 57 pics x 3.2secs, if I had the patience I reckon I could tweak a bit of colour out of it.
12x zoom again on Lyra, 52 x 3.2 sec, and you can just about make out the Ring Nebula. I must take this one again using the Barndoor so I can do 15 second exposures, I'm sure I can get a proper "ring".
Scorpius is composed of 30 x 10 second shots.
I used DeepSkyStacker and PaintShopPro.

I know they're grainy and stuff, but I'm pleased to be able to get pics like these out of a compact camera.:D

for such short exposures they are pretty good.
I am going to try the same tonight, just a shame my max bulb mode is only 30 sec.
Your photo's will be even better with a longer exposure time :)

Yeah, my max exposure is only 15 seconds, and of course there is the inevitable battle with star trails that keeps the exposure time right down, especially when you've zoomed in.
But you make do with what you have and really, every image you take gives you a little bit more experience that you can put to use later down the track.

LOL, with my scope under lock and key for the next few weeks, (it's for your own good honey) this is the only way I can do my observing.

They are very good for short exposures Jeanette!

At least you can get 15 seconds. My little pocket digital only goes up to 2 seconds and has no ISO settings (whatever they are). It is a very basic point & shoot.

Your stars are quite sharp for no tracking at all!!!! Good stuff :)

Nicely done Jeanette. What is the FL of your camera when it is fully zoomed in and in full widefield?

Well Done Jeanette, I think you did a great job with the Scorpious region.

Pretty good effort JJJ, just using the Power Shot, and such short exposures, well done indeed.

Yes, this will certainly set the hook, and money wise you may have been safer out observing (for your wallets good I mean). Good to see you back at the coal-face too.
