Has anyone in Australia (or elsewhere for that matter) seen or gotten a Meade MySky (competitor to SkyScout from Celestron) yet?
I thought they were suppossed to start shipping late June early July...
Just curious to see how the two compare...

Good point Scott, they both look gimmicky but fun.
I'd like to use it for terrestrial photography applications, ie: when the moon will rise at a certain point on a certain date etc

Bintel were expecting the mySky to be released in the states in the first weeks of July with release here several weeks later. I have my name on the list....I love my toys!

I am very curious about your impressions.
One oher question that I have is...
Are there different units (software) between the Northern Hemisphere and Southern...or will one unit work both places...???
I have that same question for the SkyScout too!

As far as I know, the same software runs on the system regardless of which hemisphere. Once I get mine, I will write up something with my impressions. If I get a chance, I was going to check with Bintel later this week, they may have some idea of delivery times by now...
Havent seen one but doubt if I will bother looking if one was placed in my hand. Its the priciple, and the principle is I could buy a lot of EP for the amount they cost.

I think this unit will also have good utility in extending the usefulness of large 25 X 100 binoculars mounted on Paralleogram mounts which would not be so easy to adapt to digital setting circles. The handle on the my Sky would be very useful mounted below the binocular for manouvering it in altitude. I would love to see how many objects I could track down with a large prismatic binocular being guided by one of these things.:)

So, it is now August, has anyone seen a Meade MySky yet?

Got mine today! Bintel had a big pile of pre-orders to be picked up. One thing I have found so far is that you need to enter the time in UT not local. I tried local time after tea and it said the Moon had not risen yet! Waiting for it to get dark...which it is now so I might just log out...
Anyone else got theirs?
I got mine a couple weeks ago. Works great. Had trouble trying to find the comet P Holmes so got the mysky out and found it in 5 sec. The display is not the best hard to read. But other then that it is a great little unit which works as advertised.

I saw one the other day. Looked and felt pretty cheap. It's about the size of a hair-drier.
It didn't feel very substantial in my hand. Felt like if I squeezed hard enough I could have cracked it. I reckon if you drop it it'll break.
Typical Meade build quality.

I handled one at Astro Optical supplies in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. It felt sturdy but not sure about the size of the display. The guy at AO also pointed out that it has a connection for a cable to connect to your scope so the mysky can drive it.

I think it would also come in handy if people are speeding down your street...just put on a blue shirt and try locating some objects near the horizon :)
