Hi all :)

I'm trying to avoid driving from Sydney to Ballina NSW (near the QLD border) to pick up our new camper trailer. I was hoping that I could get it carried back here to Sydney for only a bit more than the weekend and fuel are worth in order to go and get it ourselves.

I have had two quotes - one for $550 (Brisbane to Sydney depots) and another for $990 - which is obviously double. This one's excuse is that there is "more" handling with a trailer so they double the charge (Toll Autologistics). The trailer is only 650kg in weight, so both of these seem unreasonable - especially the $1,000 one.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable cheap carrier that might be able to do it for less?

Cheers and TIA
Chris

Chris.
There are a couple of haulage companies in Ballina.
http://www.yellowpages.com.au/search/postCategorySearch.do?headingCode=2 6077&suburbPostcode=2478&sortByClosestMatch=false&areaId=1045&sortByDetail=true&currentLetter=&sortByAlphabetical=false&businessType=Haulage&sortByDistance=false&localityId=2112&locationClue=Ballina+NSW&stateId=1&safeLocationClue=Ballina+NSW

It is worth giving them a call.

$ 550 for a half ton plus sounds ok chris I ..considering a dob cost $100 from sydney to here ..don't know any of those carriers cept for met grono who i thought were mostly local area.. brady bros have a large depot not far from kimberlys factory I think there mainly long haul and might be more to your likeing... or try hearns freight services in lismore they carry general freight at this time of the year we recently paid $700 for a little more weight for a little less the distance.. good luck i still think $550 is cheap though.

Thanks Graham - and after a bit more research on my own I think you're right. So... we're going to go and get it ourselves - and take the dogs, a bottle of red and a scope with us :)
