Mt Buller Ice(less?) climbing photos

Photos trying to ice climb off the back of Mt Buller summit area in a very steep and exposed area last weekend. Shots show snow capped Victorian mountains.

Very nice photos – looks like an exciting expedition. Is that an Alu snow stake on your rucksack in one of the photos?

Also, how long does it take to walk into the base of the climbs?

glad you enjoyed the shots.

Hi Dennis - I have a 60 cm snow stake that is burried into the ground to build a snow stake. To get to the base of the waterfall area you have to walk 1.5 hrs to the summit and then decsend down into the base so another 0.5 hrs.

Did you stay the night up there. If so was the sky clear . I have taken my telescope up there twice during Autumn and the night sky is is the best I have seen. Nice photos by the way.

we camped before the gate, so no astronomy i'm afraid, it was raining for most of the night.

We (the family) also only just got back from Mansfield/ Mt buller and the night sky was absolutely magnificent!!!!:eyepop:
I did bring my scope and camera but only my az alt mount because i couldn't fit the eq in. :doh:
But let me tell you, next time i will pack the eq mount even if it means means leaving other essentials behind to fit it in!!!

Next time you plan a trip up to Mt Bulla or Mansfield make sure there is no snow or too cold and drive up to where the chair lifts finish. There are so many stars it's not easy to make out any constellations. Even the Southern Cross is hard to spot.
