Hey guys,

Just checking whether anyone was at Sydney Observatory on Friday or Saturday night, the festival was great.

David Malin gave a really interesting talk about the atmosphere and light pollution, and Jupiter was showing off its brilliance for all to see!

And once again I was struck with awe at seeing some of the 20-30" scopes, or at least I think they were that big. There was also a 16" Meade lightbridge and cassegrain that you just knew cost a pretty penny.

I attended with my two sons...

It is always great to see the observatory!

There was a bigger crowd then I expected and this contributed to a little disappointment on my part (we had to share the scopes) for the evening although the weather was quite nice.

Limited parking in the area made for a bit of a hike to get there along with my general concerns with street side parking at night in Sydney (keeping in mind that the meters run until 10 pm).

Most of the people in attendence had little experience with Astronomy as was clear by the number and types of questions asked (Where do I look? etc.) so it was a good outreach opportunity.

Anyway, I hope the event is deemed a success!
