This is the best I can probably do with a non-tracking Dob and Toucam combo.

I had to have the settings cranked to maximum just to see anything on the screen. I shot 3 videos of Neptune drifting through the FOV. I then used Registax to process each video separately, using half the frames from each (~ 80 - 100) and save the results as 3 Tiffs. I then used Registax again to stack the 3 Tiffs to get the final image.

Yes, I know it is small, fuzzy and uninteresting but I like to push the envelope. ;)

Well done Andrew, a very good effort considering that you were not tracking.
You have captured some of it colour as well.

good stuff

It might be small & fuzzy, but no way is it uninteresting Middy! Wow, that is something to be proud of - you don't see too many shots of Uranus (or is it Neptune?) posted! You got colour too!

:eyepop: :eyepop: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

STOP EVERYTHING!!!

Before anyone else posts a comment about my picture of Uranus, I should point out that it is actually Neptune

I just double checked and triple checked in Cartes du Ciel and it is definately Neptune.

:ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed: How embarassing :ashamed: :ashamed: :ashamed:

And I knew that you would know that it was Neptune all along Ken, but I wanted to test if anyone else would pick up the <ahem> deliberate mistake.

Whatever - seen one gas giant, you've seen them all! ;)

I take that back - well done!! One day I must try to see if I can even spot one or both of them visually! To actually get an image with a non-tracking dob! Wow!

Yeah, well, that's pretty dam impressive really! Well done!

Neptune is hard enough to find sometimes let alone capture with a ToUcam and non-tracking scope.

Certainly wouldn't have even considered attempting that without tracking, that is a great effort in itself. And you have nabbed yourself a nice one there. Well done. Keep pushing, can't do's become can do's with perseverance.
