OK, there's bound to be some geeks or AV-tech-heads out there on this forum which have done this:

I only have a DVD player and VCR at the moment. I am considering options of a DVR or similar. If I were to get a DVR, I'd want it to be able to plug in to my PC/network such that I can transfer shows to my Zen.

Does anyone know if there are DVR's that can plug direct in to a PC/network ? (via USP or TCP/IP for example)

It seems people in the US do this using a device called a "TiVo", but that is a cable device that from what I can tell is not suitable for AU usage, let alone free-to-air usage.

Seems this should be possibe but isn't listed as functionality on the DVR's I have searched for, reviews, etc. I mean, if the DVR has a harddrive why not throw in a USB out or CAT5 plug?? ... maybe even 802.11, that'd be neat :)

Thanks!

The TiVo can be adapted for use here in Aus....Tivo is a brand so its not officially launched for down under yet...

I have a friend that is using one, next time I see him online I will get the details of the site he used to make it all happen, but basically he got the TiVo from the US and adapted it to do lookups on Aus tv guides etc.

Interesting.... when I viewed your post a google add came up on the right for "TiVo coming to Aus"...

I'm still interested in other options if people have ideas.

Have a look at http://www.topfield.com.au (http://www.topfield.com.au/)

They make a range of DVR's, all have a USB connection and some of the more recent models have wireless connections.
I have a T500pvrt that is a couple of years old. Recently updated it to a 400 GB disk and added a wireless connection so I can download electronic program guides from the internet as well as set recordings via a web server.
It's a great accessory for an astronomer who doesn't want to miss their TV while they are out in the cold observing.

BTW, some models are currently on sale at Myers
