Recently I was searching Astrobin and stumbled across some images done in a HSS mix - Ha mapped to Red, SII mapped to Green and Blue, generally with the stars removed (from what I saw).

So, I thought I would give it a try. I could not easily get rid of that massive star blob, so it's there. I've convinced myself that it's a positive influence on the overall image. :)

Very interesting, Chris.

The palette gives a moody and quite different feel to the usual 'background' of blue/green OIII just above the dragons themselves. A nice and fairly unique version of this oft-imaged region.

Thanks Pete. Yes, the very different feel definitely drew me to it.

I've got the OIII data as well, so I'll do a more "traditional" version of the region sometime soon.

Yeah this is really kinda cool Chris, quite a 3D feel with some lovely features almost like they are protruding from the image.

Ala Aldi, "good different." :)

That’s clever Chris and shows an innovative approach to how we mix our colours with narrowband image processing. I’ve been experimenting with Ha/SII mixing somewhat of late and like the concepts included in this approach.

Haha, yes, that's an appropriate statement.

Yes. I'm not sure why I found it unusual, after all there's lots of HOO mixes out there for many targets. I guess SII is generally weaker compared to the others that it's skipped.

Another palette I'm experimenting with is HOS, which was inspired by the recent APOD of the Rosette Nebula done this way. I thought it looked magnificent.

Clever capers Chris, Im seeing a broken Heart with the red background and the Dragons are hands tearing at it...
Good Stuff

Ha! I had someone else give a similar description elsewhere, although I think they said demon claws. :)
