lunar vista fantastic friday and its been a very long time

this is a 12 panel mosaic of the moon this afternoon before sunset and clouds. it was taken with my new asi715mc camera, taken on the WO flt132. i haven't imaged out on my dome for well over 12 months, due to life and mainly the weather. :lol:both have not improved. the seeing wasn't the best with the surface ending up being very soft, so all in all its a very average attempt, but better than nothing;)

I'm jealous, I wanted to do a similar thing this afternoon with my 80mm original Megrez, my Powermate 5 times and my Nikon D810 ( a quick grab and throw out in the yard set-up). I do know I can use that combination if I can get the 210mm distance between focuser body and camera body, I think I was a little off today trying to keep the weight minimal off the back of the focuser which has a little slop.

I was stuffed if I could find the moon on my camera live view screen or tiny viewfinder with sunlight coming in from behind me. Since it wasn't a tracking mount, just a 25Kg capacity studio gear head on a large Manfrotto tripod (not carbon) but I eventually gave up and the clouds rolled in.
Another day perhaps but I can enjoy your image done with far superior equipment.

Have to say that's one hell of a co-incidence, new 2nd hand scope got initiated on last nights moon also,
Looking at the same camera too, how do you find it, I'm sure the tiny pixels will be advantageous when the seeing plays ball ?

sounds like you're throwing far too much at it without doing your homework first and testing. small steps before you leap off the cliff. sometimes its wise to look at the tools and realise that you cant use the socket as a hammer;)

no definitely not. it was a washing machine. i was happy with it and look forward to using it with a bigger hammer down the track (12 inch meade SCT)

Always in your shadow Dennis, in awe with your ISS image. that jet stream is a killer at the moment and we have more cloud again. so imaging in daylight was better than nothing. Wasyoungonce fixed my gemini 2 controller for me as i couldn't use the touch screen, so this was a test for the new fix. i haven't used the dome for well over 12 months, actually more like 16 months. never wished so hard for drought to reduce the rain and clouds we have suffered for the past few years......:sadeyes:

I have done it before with the same equipment on a SW goto mount though but I did notice the old focuser has a lot of sag at full extension. I can't remember, I've had the focuser off before, I think it unscrews from the tube itself (threaded end on telescope main tube). I have another Williams Optics focuser I could fit but not if it mounts the way I think it does, best I remove the original and find a way of minimising the slop.
Even just my 2" diagonal and D810 is a little too much weight for the old girl.

That WO FLT132 is an amazing telescope, amazing clarity, fist thing on my "to buy" list when I win the big lotto one day.
And a suitable mount, and dome, and better eye sight.


David a 12 panel mosaic means 12 separate regions stitched together in MS ICE or some such program does it not?
It has so much detail, a stack of a few images would be out of this world.

I've used MS I.C.E. (Image composite editor), it was a free program but no longer supported though it is still available through the way back machine. It can put out some good results and very easy to use, great for panoramas.
