Aurora June 1st Central West NSW

Time lapse video of the aurora last night June 1., 2025 from 6:15pm-11:20pm AEST.

This is only a 540p res video. I captured over a thousand frames during the event. I decided not to do any noise reduction when I worked out it would take 60 hours processing to noise reduce all the frames. :rofl::rofl:

Lovely images, I haven't looked at the video but I already know it's going to look amazing.
I was out last night trying to photograph the Milky Way with a 28mm f2.8 lens but no matter what I did I couldn't get focus (not even stopping down) but it was below zero here but the lens wasn't fogged/misted/iced up. I'll try it another night when I have gloves on.
I DID NOT however see any of this lovely glow you get but I think I'm probably too far east.

Hi Leo,
You are only 150km east of me and we are the same latitude. The red aurora is 200-400km high and thousands of km south of us. Lot's of great photos of the aurora taken even further east in the Blue Mountains, central and south coast etc etc. Most likely, you missed the flare up - 8:15pm-9:30pm when it was naked eye visible with colour. It spent a long time visible with night vision in monochrome. Pretty faint other times. I was on aurora watch from 6:15pm-11:15pm.

Been some light colour captured up here in Qld also, not as strong as that huge event last year, but yeah a few capturing fainter aurora glow up here. .

It was cloudy at 6pm. Fell asleep in front of the fire. It's part cloudy now. So i don't think I missed anything.

I don't have a clear view remotely south, I can see the southern cross but that's about it.
Had I known and gone up to a local lookout I may have seen it. Lithgow itself is in a basin surrounded by mountains on most sides.
I was out playing with a camera and 28mm f2.8 lens from 8:15 till 1AM approximately (and couldn't get focus).

I am generally not a time lapse photographer but for aurorae, I agree that time lapse is the best way to convey the dynamic nature.

My early attempts were more crude and time consuming but now that I have the workflow sorted, I can get them processed and rendered relatively quickly.
