I have just spent the past month in Tasmania. I spent about 15 of the nights that didn't have a big bright moon in the sky camping at various beaches down the east coast hunting for aurorae. I caught auroral displays three nights and airglow displays, on two other nights. Each of these are part of short sequence which I'll eventually turn into a time lapse video.

May is a great time to be there. Although there was snow in the mountains, the warm east Australian current kept the east coast relatively comfortable for camping most of my visit. There were a couple of cold nights but I had plenty of good gear for cold weather camping.

At the same time, nobody is travelling so bookings are quite easy, and many places have low crowd numbers...EXCEPT.... for ferry bookings with a car. Many grey nomads go north for the winter so there are no problems booking to go there but make sure you have a return booking and don't miss the boat. I booked in advance and came back Sunday night. This winter there sem to be a few available spots but I've heard from friends of people getting stuck there for the whole winter.

Really nice Joe especially like 3 and 4.Good to see you got some Auroral activity as well. Bruny island is worth a look if you haven’t been and in May there aren’t many in the campgrounds there either.
