My 2nd try at Jupiter

Hi all
used my 840K toucam on the 10 inch f5.6 newt. on Jupiter again, waiting for a night where seeing seemed okay.
Its about 150 frames stacked, processed in Registax folowing Mike Salways very handy instructions in his imaging Jupiter article on IIS. I actually aligned the stack using the Jovian moon there. I used a Meade 2.8x three element Barlow as the only xtra magnification. Filtering out the lower quality images sure makes a difference. (total amount was about 400 frames) Initially I just stacked the whole sequence but it wasnt near as good as this. So then I read up on Mike's instructions. I could probably improve further using , say, 5x magnification and using the other software that Mike mentions but for now will experiment with registax.
Note, colour balance for the toucam is manually set to "outdoor"

That's a very nice image. Plenty of detail there.

If I may make just one suggestion, try setting the white balance to auto, leave it for 30 seconds or so, and then tick it off.

That should improve your colour balance, which of course can be corrected in something like Photoshop.

I think 'auto' colour balance for the Toucam looks more natural. When I tried 'outdoor' it turned out with quite an orange tinge similar to your pic. When I use 'auto' it seems to get the white areas white and having a more pleasing colour balance.

Apart from that it is quite a good pic. You have certainly grabbed quite a bit of subtle detail out of Joop!

That's an excellent image for only your 2nd attempt! Well done Scott.

With more image scale (get a 5x powermate!) you'll really start pulling in some great images. That's a massive improvement already.

For improvement next time, as matt said try improving on the colour balance. Yours is a bit on the red/pink side. Here's a quick reprocess with levels and curves, though you'll get a much better job if you capture the right colour to begin with.

Also, align on the planet rather than the moon. Io (for example) moves much more quickly than Jupiter rotates, so if you align on the moon you'll end up with some misalignment on the planet. If you want the moon to also be sharp, then do a second run through registax after (aligned on the moon) and make a composite.
