Jupiter really turned it on last night - for about half an hour around 10.30pm the seeing was as close to 10 as I can ever remember.

Still processing (and landscaping, and unpacking boxes etc) but here's the red channel from one of these runs. Colour image coming later.

regards, Bird

edit: Also added the final colour version

Hi Bird,

Speechless to your recent Jupiter images, smooth, fine and Hubble-like details on the ball surface.

Well done.

Hi Bird,

Love your processing in this way very much. IMHO, that is the best one up to now.

What a brilliant image and huge scale.

Were the moons added in composite later? I imagine the image scale of the original capture must've taken up most of the 640x480 FOV.

I think that's your best ever, Anthony. Congrats!

an awesome image and the best ganymede i have ever seen...........ever!

congrats bird! well deserved

No Mike, I plan to reprocess the moons later - this is just the full frame 640x480, resampled 150%. Io is a bit distorted by motion, but Ganymede is ok, probably cause it moves a bit slower.

I used a 2-point align on Jupiter, and the moons just came along for the ride :-)

ps I have better data yet to process :-)

Superb image Anthony. Spectacular detail in the polar regions.

Wanna send the seeing over here? LOL

That's really special. Congrats on a world class image and thanks for sharing with everyone Anthony.

With conditions at your new site like that we can always just have the next astrocamp near you!

Funny you should mention that...

I'm toying with the idea of having a "Jupiter Quadrature" get-together at my place, 3 months before opposition next year. At quadrature Jupiter is overhead just before dawn, probably the best time of the year for imaging.

And the nighttime temps are still ok, getting down to single figures but not yet subzero.

This would be mid-April or there abouts.

cheers, Bird

Count me in for that Mate, I know you have invited me before, but I just want to let you know that I am definitely in. Will be coming with the C14 this time.

Paul, I got the date wrong, should have been mid April :-)

I think DaveP was also interested in coming up for a visit, maybe we can scare up a few more as well.

This would be a low-cost, low profile thing, just a few people staying at my place (or nearby at the Murrumbateman Country Inn, shameless plug).

At lesat this way we get 2 chances for good weather, one in April and one in July :-)

cheers, Bird

Hi Anthony

Wow – what an image to wake up to on Monday morning! Pure magic! The time, energy and enthusiasm you have invested in high-res planetary imaging, along with the equipment mods and upgrades you have pioneered, have really paid off, culminating in this amazing Jovian portrait.

Australian amateur astronomy is proud of you.

Cheers

Anthony I would be up for this as well.

Easter next year would be ideal allowing a few days of imaging fun.

No sheer rock faces around here though :-( But we do have a large tree that would pose a challenge :-)

The latest colour image is spectacular, Anthony. Very reminiscant of Damian's work although not quite at Barbados quality. Not far off though. You took this from your backyard also! You must be very excited, and happy to know that your new house can deliver that type of seeing!

Congratulations on a spectacular image.

Thanks for the comments, I'm away on business now for a few days - I'll be back on Saturday and then continue processing this data.

I'm having an "interesting" time with registax, data which looks like it should be better is coming out worse, and vice versa. I really would like to know what it's doing... :-)

cheers, Bird

Very happy, as you can imagine :-)

The cooling allows me to keep imaging for another month or so until conditions get too difficult. This means about 4 or 5 months of good quality imaging in each season is possible - depending on weather of course.

Every time a large High pressure system has come across the seeing turns good for a few days and these sort of images become possible.

In another month or so the observatory will be built, and then I can start to get serious :-) no more laptop and temporary cables...

Funny you should mention that Anthony, I have noticed a similar effect of late with Registax. Glad someone else is seeing this too.

damians first barbados red channel had lines produced by registax...... he said that optimizing seemed to introduce them?

definately something in reddie poor
