Green laser

Hi I over loaded my green laser pointer and burned it out,can anyone tell were I can get a new laser pointer within Australia

I know that eBay and Amazon have green lasers listed for sale, supposedly shipping from Australia. A lot of listings can be found that claim the power is 1mW and under but I'm skeptical as to whether or not this is factual. I feel like border security might nick your laser if it gets sent in from overseas.


Have you had any trouble from the coppers shining your laser (I'm assuming) into the night sky? I've wanted to strap a green laser to my scope to use for sighting objects, but the last thing I want is for the cops to rock up and fine me and/or confiscate my laser. I've had it since the early 2000's but because it's 5mW, it's 5 times the legal limit. A lot of planes pass over my house after takeoff too and I don't want to be causing trouble for the pilots. :lol:

Yeah you right Nick about using them around planes but most of the air traffic are about 5000 feet, but they are really good for chasing flying foxes away

From my old understanding in NSW (not sure on elsewhere) as someone who is a full member of an astronomical society/club I'm allowed to own and use green lasers for the purpose of astronomy/pointing out items of interest to others.
Getting them into the country however is a mess of paperwork and I was silly enough to buy a low powered unit from China one time and avoid the paperwork (I wasn't actually aware of) only for it to be seized by customs. I fought them and got my green laser, they must have thought the thing cost me a fortune, it was $10.
Despite it's cheap price it is perfect for what I use it for (alignment) but I don't use it very often, I live not far from a 24 hour McDonald's and I'm always concerned some IDIOT will phone the police and complain someone is out trying to bring down Wonder Woman's invisible jet at 3AM with a green laser. I used to phone the police before I used the thing and tell them not to bother calling around and harassing me. The police themselves have actually asked me if I could take a copy of the law in for them.
I've told them that's not my responsibility.


I don't live anywhere near an airport and were I to notice a plane in the sky it's the last thing I'd be pointing at them.
The lasers became a major problem with IDIOTS around airports trying to interfere with pilots landing planes and helicopters for fun I guess, I hope it's their family members on board, hence why they were banned.
I do want a more powerful one one day but will look into the paperwork if I can find where I get it from, theoretically I should be able to get it from ASNSW (astronomy society) I think..
They need to see company details, order details, costs and everything else, I'm guessing there's an invisible tax with the things....


Green laser levels are available (Bunnings/eBay) if you find one cheap enough with a suitable laser diode.

I bought mine many years ago off Ebay for less than $15 from overseas and had no issues - just picked it up from my PO Box. Maybe things have gotten more restricted since then. I notice there are a multitude of green lasers available on Amazon Australia, with delivery within a day or two if you're with Amazon Prime. I don't know how they'd monitor those purchases.

I believe mine was just an inconvenient package grab by border force but I got my laser eventually after some stern words about the new legal requirements and paperwork.
A lot of stuff from Amazon Australia still drop ships from China in my experience (purchasing through eBay of all things only to have something drop shipped directly from China with an Amazon.Au label).
Now I just go to Amazon and cut out the middle man.
