Well the All Blacks did alright, but unfortunately Alinghi has beat NZ in first
race of America's Cup.

The Junior All Blacks take on Japan tonight (5:30pm ABC2) in what could be
a clean sweep of the Pacific Nations

Yes, just waking up to the good and bad news, so be it. The AB's seemed to do OK, I reckon the Boks were worn down by them Wallabies last week, so our gain there.
The yachting? Not sure what went wrong. Too many Kiwis on Alinghi I reckon.

Gees i wish they'd make the teams represented by their own nationality, New Zealand would still have it today!
You can blame the corporate big wigs in NZ for the in-fighting which saw Coutts and Butterworth leave TNZ....

WHAT YOU NZ'S ON ABOUT LOSING THE FIRST RACE??....AUSTRALIA'S BEEN THERE,DONE THAT!! AUSTRALIA II IN 1983.....DOWN 3-1 AND CAME BACK TO WIN!:D
IM SURE YOU GUYS CAN DO IT! Just need the breaks!

Cheers!

PS.....damn you Warriors for beating my poor Panthers senseless! (kidding!! they were senseless before they got there)

GO NZ'S!!!!!!

Keep it up!!

Well done!
Sounds very tight racing!

That'd be Dean Barkers first cup match win since the last race in 2000 when he helmed TNZ against Luna Rossa!

Long way to go yet tho!

New Zealand 2-1 over Alinghi
NZ lost a man overboard but he hung on and got back on, allowing Alinghi to slip past but fought back to a narrow win!

Well done NZ!

Wow! that's a great result, even with the man overboard. In the event the
dewd overboard didn't hang on do they have to go back and get him?

Yep, basic maritime rules still apply during all races, they are entitled to circle back and pick them up (as the deed of gift states that America's Cup races are to be held on or on an arm of the open sea, so maritime safety rules must be adhered to)

Did you know that in 1980 Australia won a race against Dennis Conner's "Freedom", Conner tried to disqualify Australia because they finished late in the afternoon and Australia didn't have any lighting??
According to Conner they were supposed to display a stern light!

The start was delayed due to shifting winds and light breezes, Australia won cos of the penalty-free sail area they obtained by using the "bendy" fibreglass mast they copied off the English yacht "Lionheart".
The rules never allowed for the mainsail to be measured with a roach, so it went unpenalized!
The extra 25 square feet of sail area was beneficial in light breezes and they were able to sail past Freedom and win! Mind you that teamwork and effort was still maintained to get them there!

Alinghi has taken the 4th race to level the score, unfortunately they appear
to have cheated to do it, dam Kiwi's next they'll be underarm bowling at
cricket

Yeah....its a hard match!
In terms of boatspeed they look very even, its the small things that matter and is crucial, add all the small things up and fractions of seconds turn into seconds........
Very unforgiving match racing, Win you're IN ,lose you're OUT.....

Im sure TNZ will come back though! Chin Up fellas!
