My last image and first with the new Starlightxpress Trius814 Pro camera, was accumulated back in Oct/Nov, but sadly, it was the one year anniversary of the death of our son Ben in December, so things were a little somber and saw my wife and I do some cathartic travelling during December, including tracing Bens last days .

This data was collected over three nights during January under good to acceptable seeing conditions but some thin high cloud and sky/aurora glow, caused a little annoyance a couple of times.

Over many years now, when viewing wider field shots of M42, my eye has often been drawn to this finger shaped bit of nebula. A regular thought over the years has been "I've never seen a close up shot of this cool little globule, I should shoot it one day." ...so, fiiiinally, ta daaah!

This intriguing but quite faint ghostly feature, is a small (approx. 12' X 4') globule of dusty emission nebula, located right next to the Great Nebula in Orion, a distant outer bluish filament of which, extends down from the top in this framing.

I have never seen an image of just this feature before, so, where is it? (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/175236280/original)...(see attached wide field by Miguel Claro)

They are crisp Mike, beautiful images.
Soon it's going to be too cold to go out where you are though I do remember the snow shots last year so I guess not.
It dropped to 5C here last night, strangest summer weather ever.....

Ha I love it Mike! Definitely a different take on a well-imaged region. You’ve presented some detail I’ve never noticed before and I love the framing!!

To get that close and that crisp takes some doing. I've never looked at this before. Wonderful

Thanks so much Paulie :2thumbs:

Well to be honest, it's pretty obvious what the elephant in the room thinks it looks like....:scared2: In fact, Angie wanted me to call it the Willy Nebula :face:

An interesting object!

Nicely processed and colourful. A good way to get past a somber occasion.

Thanks Adam

Thanks Greg I was keen to have it sparkle and yeah, it was nice to be out under the stars in January, it's truly a beautiful spot to contemplate on a clear Moonless night.... :)

Thanks a lot Rod

I've captured this object several times in wider field shots but never done a close up of it. I think this really works at the scale you captured it Mike. It reminds me a little of some sections of the Witch Head nebula. There are several other globules in the wider area which also have an interesting look to them too. A unique view with plenty of detail in your image.

Cheers Paul. Funny you should say that about the Witch Head bits, my other choice for January was in fact one of those sections and with galaxies mixed in...next summer now :)

Yeah ok, something more phallic comes to (some peoples) mind though.... :help:
