1:02 am and the cloud has come in and melted all the ice!!! Still a bit on the cubby observatory roof, but the scope has thawed out
But I had a great night doing visual observing thru the 12" dob
Even checked out heaps of Galaxies with the Pentax XW7 !!!!! Man, it makes them big! Faint, but BIG! NGC4945 looks spectacular in the XW7, I couldn't even fit it all in the FOV :)
It got down to close to -5 overnight.
Is still -4.3 at 7.30am:scared:
Hi Matt, nothing like a fresh Canberra morning is there. :cold:
Apparently there is more of the same tonight.
Cheers
Hi Ric:)
Yep. Just checked the forecast.
Another -4 on the way tonight and then -3 or -2 for the next few nights after.
A pretty good frost when I got up this morning.

Poor Matt. It hurts when to defrost your fingers on nights like that.
We only get a handful of nights like that here in winter, kind of makes it novel.
Yep, I had a nice ride into work on the motorbike and I'm definitely wide awake by the time I arrive.
Cheers
Hi jjj:hi:
I actually don't mind the cold, too much. I guess I'm sorta used to it:screwy:
At least there are no mozzies!!
And it looks great seeing everyone puffed up in their winter coats, looking like the Michelin man:lol:

It's currently 3 degrees and dropping nicely down here. We are expecting another -3 again tonight.
Should be a good one even with half a Moon hanging around.
Minus 2.4 here at the moment, Ric:cold:
Just packed up from a Jupiter imaging session.
No good, unfortunately. Such is winter.
That's a bit of a bummer Matt, I've noticed that there is a bit of smoke haze about tonight.
Hope you get a better one tomorrow.
Cheers

1 degree here. I don't think we will get below zero tonight coz of cloud cover.

went and checked the scope yesterday morning and had -7.3 on the mirror and -6.3 ambient.
this morning, when i was doing jupiter, it was a slighty warmer -2.5, but with mars, -4.5
As bird said, at least no condensation on the mirror as the peltiers have effectively dried the air of any moisture

Now 10am, 3° and the frost is still here in the shade.
I was talking to the guys at work the other day saying we never (hardly ever) get frosts here, cant remember the last one, snow yes, sure there must be some climatic reason for it.
Helps getting acclimatised for "Border Stargaze" :cold: + freezer suit.

Well I'm woosing out for the Astrofest. After the last couple of years of surprise subzero temps I'm in for a freezer suit from Geoff (GTB_an_Owl (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/member.php?u=772)). :cold:

My freezer suit from GTB_an_Owl is working fabulously. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with our ridiculous outside nocturnal habits.

We had our first frost out here yesterday and thought we were in for another
this morning. Lucky the clouds rolled in over night and it was warmer this
morning than it was when I hit the sack last night. It's been raining off and
on today.
