Well the reign of Meade, Orion and Coronado Telescopes has come to an end, sad day. All of their stock is up for action 516 items minus the kitchen sink. Definitely some bargain in there but of course living half way around the world we will miss out. So if you have a friend in California you may score a cheap Meade 16” 😂

For me I probably need to start saving for a replacement mount for my 12” LX200 if and when it may stop working.

Cheers

Sheesh! I heard of Orion and Meade going under but now Coronado as well? I'd sure love that Meade 16 inch dob!

Oh well, Skywatcher and Daystar Quark, here I come !

End of an era indeed - I remember those Meade ads with the guy in the lab coat back in the day!

The Orion ED80 was my first serious imaging scope too

I've been reaching out to anyone I know with an American accent, not hits yet.

I'm seriously considering to see if I could Airtask a pick up then store and pack for sea freight, but it's coming up quicker than I can probably book. If anyone wanted to go in, and lives in Sydney, maybe it could be worth splitting a shipment?

P.S I looked at air freight, with approx 7 boxes at 15 kg each, and it's about $2000 just to ship it, hence looking at sea freight

I have a friend in Arizona (and a couple in Florida and a little sister in Texas) but it costs them just as much to send anything to me, freight from the US has been prohibitively expensive for years, throw in our weak dollar and it cost me $160AU for an Amazon gift card for $100US at Christmas time

Apparently the auction was cancelled. At first I thought maybe the fires had something to do with it, but no. It appears dealings were going on behind the scenes for an unnamed entity to purchase all lots PLUS some intellectual property.

Will be interesting to find out who, along with their future intentions, especially with it including intellectual property - could these brands make a comeback in some way? We will have to wait & see...

Cheers,
Mark

Yes, all gone to an unknown bidder. Expect to see the names again in the next few years recycled. Not sure I would buy equipment from dead manufacturers anyway. What about spare parts and service? And there are plenty of other choices out there. I wonder what happened after Orion's win against Meade and Co? I expected a happier ending.
