Hi all - hope any AM3/5/5N owners might be able to help me with a question.

When I set up the mount in my ‘pool pump shed’ observatory after a night’s imaging, I need to park the scope at 90° in order to close the roof.

Been searching online, and it seems there isn’t a user defined park setting available (in iOS) as yet which will allow me to do the above.

A work-around I considered was to slew the mount to the desired 90° position then just shut the power off. When I go to setup again I can use the hand controller to return the mount to home position.

Heaviest scope that I’ll use on the mount around 11kg

Question is, will this damage the mount?
Does anyone else do this?

All the best
Doug

Answering myself: yep, that works for a small rig…yet to try with a medium sized (8kg) and larger (13kg) setup

Self parking works with heaviest scope too

You are the learner and teacher Doug, when no one else has been in your situation. I'm sure this will be valuable information as these mounts become cheaper and more widely used.

If I wasn't so lazy and stupid I'd be looking into making my own, I have access to lathe and milling machine in a garden shed (milling machine still in box because some lazy old sod hasn't welded up the stand yet), or made a fold panbrake to make a suitable tray (I have the materials to make the lot and the required skills). I'll get to it one day when the weather and health is better, hopefully soon...

I have done a lot of research into the drives and seen some made of 3D printed plastics I wouldn't consider safe to mount a valuable scope on but interesting all the same.
