Chamaeleon Cloud Complex

Taken with my ASI6200 camera and EF200mm lens, this widefield shot takes in a large area of the constellation of Chamaeleon including the molecular clouds Cha I, II & III. It is an LRGB image taking in over 28 hours of data, necessary to try and bring out as much of the faint detail as possible.

A fascinating area full of dusty, star forming clouds of dust and gas with many intricate swirls and shapes therein. Image acquisition with SGP Pro and calibration, registration, integration and post processing in Pixinsight.

The detail is really good, I was expecting it to have been a mosaic! Pinpoint stars to the corners too, stuff of widefield dreams! :)

I so want that lens..?..ooops aaand another camera....:question: :sadeyes:....hmmm? Nup, not a chance :doh:

It IS possible. Imagine, two imaging rigs running simultaneously collecting superior quality data. Only problem is what to do with it all :juggle:

Oh, 28 hours of data, I doubt I'd get close, maybe 2.8 if I was lucky.



I have an old Nikon 80-200 f2.8 ED lens I must chuck on the Astro-trac with my D810 if the cloud and rain ever clears locally one night. It's the older 16 element lens but I have seen mention the more glass elements the more light refracting off the separate pieces of glass and causing ghosting.
It's what I own, bought new in 91 with a tax cheque when I worked so it's a case of it will get a decent image or not and I won't know till I try.
