Hi all,

I grabbed this image of the conjunction of the moon and Saturn as they rose behind Sydney Tower yesterday evening.

Because of the low angle of the moon and Saturn, it didn't make much sense to try imaging at high resolution, so I decided to try and catch them with a foreground object.
Saturn is below and to the right of the moon, near the tower's cables.

This is a single exposure, 1/250th sec @ ISO280 with the Esprit 80 and Pentax K-5 DSLR. A higher-res version (if needed) is available here (https://www.astrobin.com/6qrevg/B/)

Cheers,
Pete

That's a lovely photo Pete!
I walked out to have a look and considered grabbing a small scope but we had scattered cloud so I didn't bother.

Thanks Leo! Shame about your cloud.

Thanks Joe! The 12-year-old Pentax K-5 still has a decent dynamic range, despite being superseded by the newer gear. ;)

Thanks Leon - appreciate it. :)

Thanks Dave!

I was planning to add a 2x Powermate to shoot at 800mm but I was running late, & from my original planned location the moon had already crept too far north, so I hastily relocated about 100m & had to do a super-fast set up.
There was also the concern whether the moon and Sydney Tower would both be in sharp focus at 800mm as I was only around 1km away (& I had no time to test it all out). :)
