Hi all, just read this on the ABC and I thought some of you may be interested. It seems that the W.A. Tourism Corporation wanted to trademark the term Dark Sky Festival but were oppose by the S.A. Mid Murray Council and rightly so. Why would you want to trademark an expression that is in common usage worldwide, What were they thinking.

I hadn't seen that article. It's news to me, but it doesn't surprise me. Or am I just getting cynical?

A similar kerfuffle happened a while ago with "Science in the Pub"...sadly once the lawyers got involved the whole enjoyable experience fell in a heap.

Its very hypocritical of Govt to try and profit from a natural feature inherent to the outer suburban area, yet they do little to encourage/enforce the need for dark skies in suburbia, even though research has found that all these lights do little to curb crime yet are detrimental to wildlife and humans alike :)
