Hi everyone,
Here is Zeta Ophiuchi, a so-called ‘runaway star’, ejected from its place of birth and travelling through space at high velocity (relative to its surroundings), in this case creating a distinctive ‘bow shock’.

In this HOO image we can see the rather nice donation of oxygen and hydrogen in the bow-shock area surrounded by a sea of hydrogen-rich clouds which form part of the SH2-27 nebula. This is a very luminous star and produces some pretty wild halos, even with 3nm narrowband filters -mostly in oxygen, as you would expect, but also in hydrogen too! Very difficult to remove these in post-processing so I have left them in. Fortunately, I think that they do add to the ‘drama of the scene’.
This represents 16hrs of Hydrogen and 10 hrs of Oxygen data plus a tiny bit extra for RGB stars. Processed in APP and Photoshop with Blur Exterminator used only to reduce the RGB stars by 25%. Delta Rho 350 scope from Melbourne’s outer reaches….
