View Full Version here: : How to report ATO scam (spam) emails

I've been getting my inbox flooded with ATO spam emails this morning. In an effort to forward the messages to the relevant ATO site (ReportScams@ato.gov.au) I've now had my email blocked for attempting to send spam.
The MONGRELS let it through despite my paying for a spam filter.
Now I'm guessing I have to phone and ARGUE with some IDIOT at my ISP (mail server) to get this problem rectified?
NEVER AGAIN!
Any ideas?
EDIT: According to my ISP it's a Thunderbird issue PITA.......
It turned out it was my ISP and after a long discussion and complaint my email capacity has been restored despite them claiming it had nothing to do with them.

Hello Leo,
Just a suggestion here, but I've been using Mailwasher Pro for many, many years & have never had any problems with spam or nasties on my system.
You may like to give it a try coz they have a free version, but is limited to just the one Account.
Link to the free one > https://www.mailwasher.net/
Their Pro version is here...
As a bonus, they even offer a Lifetime license if you want.
Reasonably priced & their Support Fora is very good if anything turns up or you require assistance.
Hope this helps with your spam annoyance.
(Please note: I have no affiliation to either MWP or Firetrust. I'm just a long term user.)

Thank you, I'll look into it.
Yes, it's annoying when I get spam because I pay for a spam filter with my ISP, it's even worse when the same message I received through their spam filter is logged as spam when I'm trying to sand it to the authorities to at least get a warning out to others about the ATO scam.

Most people are aware of the ATO scam emails you don't really need to report each one. they get bombarded with complaints against these emails constantly. What needs to be done is to make the ISP's accountable instead

Yeah this strikes me as a tad hypocritical....but it might not have been sent enough times for your ISP to recognise as spam when it came to you...and then enough people reported it to them by the time you sent it....(I'm speculating, but that is a plausible explanation)
I wouldn't bother reporting spam to the ATO...they won't do anything with it...
I'm surprised that your ISP charges you for the filter....i get mine for free...(it seems to me that it is in the ISP's best interest to block spam before it is your problem)
Not mentioning brands - but my ISP's filter is pretty good....i hardly get any...and once i mark them as spam they seem to go away for good...
I dont use that address for anything other than direct communication with people i know, so this limits what a spammer can pick up to use...
Tin-foil hat warning....
The email address i use most is supplied by a search engine company....and it gets NO spam....i mean NONE....
hmmm....

I use compartmentalisation.
I have a private email address and a couple of public ones. The public ones are with hotmail and gmail, both of whom have pretty good spam filters. Not much spam gets through but some of my messages, mainly from mailing lists, get junked. Public addresses are used for mailing lists, account registrations etc.
Then I have a private address that only is given to lets say, real life friends and used for secure registrations - banking, tax, my gov etc. When I receive anything about banking medicare ATO at my public address, I don't even have to think about whether it is or isn't a scam.
That email address has no public listing, is never used for registrations. Only for personal correspondence and secure registrations. It has no filters and gets no junk or spam.

I already figured possibly a lot of people may be reporting these scams and I also know ther's always the possibility several people probably think "everyone else has reported it why bother?" as I've known to happen in other situations.
I have never been stupid enough up to this point to click on these emails and text but sadly I know elderly people who have, that's why I always take the time to report them.
I also have a private email address but there have been so many sites compromised a primary address has been shared a few yaes ago, an email address I have too many contacts on to change and contact everyone.
