M8 M20 and M21

Was pleased to be able to get this from my backyard with the Esprit 100 and ASI2600MM. Have had a few go arounds with processing (LRGB scares me somewhat with trying to be reasonably colour accurate) but decided to only up the saturation and keep the colour balance from the spectrographic colour calibration in PixInsight. Curious what others think when it comes to LRGB. Other images of this object seem more red, but this isn't what emerged from the camera and the Astronomik Type 2c filters.

I think you have done everything pretty right on this one Ben.

The physics suggests most emission nebulae should look some form of magenta ie. essentially pink, so that aspect looks good to me. There is some subtle green in the dusty reflection-emission transition in the Trifid, so that's always cool to extract if you can but any subtle suggestions on colour balance variations would be largely semantics, its a really lovely shot of these two perennial favourites :thumbsup:

Definitely noticed that hint of Green. In some other edits I reduced the green overall, which wasn’t so great, so perhaps more a case of isolating it. Fun to try!

Ha! I like it sideways! One way looks like a giant Trifid headed beast wandering past the Lagoon, the other way looks like a giant dog has dipped its paw in the watery stream of M21…. Hmmm :-)

I may not have explained it properly, I was saying there is some green (and whites) in the reflection-emission transition region, so it's good to see it in my opinion :thumbsup:

Lovely image , beautifully framed and processed
Colour is always subjective and up to one’s imagination sometimes.
I like the pinkish reds rather than the deep reds in emission nebula and yours is perfect IMO
It’s the salmon colours that don’t really get my tick , I had a tough time with NB salmon colour from the early stages of using my OSC 2600MC about 4 years ago , but now using the 2600MM, Broadband and Narrowband colour palettes are so much easier to control and adjust to taste.

I’ve not had much luck with OSC cameras. Figured it was likely due to light pollution. Think these ASI2600MM are wonderful. Big draw back for me is processing the larger files in PixInsight on a 13” 2020 MacBook Pro :-( Lots of crashes and memory issues. Time to invest in a proper PC!
