That is a real noice result for a single dslr exposure David, a classic white light filter do a sensation job keeping fine details with solar spots.
Also seeing the convection cells creating that granulation pattern on the surface, quite a dramatic image..

AR# 3697 is virtually pointing right at Earth currently,, it created an X-Class flare a couple days ago but no CME was detected,,:innocent:

Cheers Bob, wanting to get more but clouds say no.

It's rare I get good seeing here near the coast. All 9 exposures I took all looked to have good detail. I have sharpened the image slightly.

Granulation I don't pick up with the ED 80 just a mottled pattern, I start to pick up granulation with the SW 127 Mak or larger scope with long focal lengths. All good fun :)

Lovely crisp image of Sol and all the active regions, the ED80 is such a great little scope for not only deep sky imaging. Good seeing really counts for so much in getting sharp images, goes without saying .

A good looking result with the ED80 while access to the sun is not easy this week in many places. WA has had a lot more sun this year as it is. And if you get solar seeing that supports your 127 Mak giving nice granulation images every now and then, your daylight seeing cannot be too bad by Aussie standards!
