The Kp=9 event on 11 May as seen from Twizel, NZ
Many images on the net, so these three will do. The first one looking south-east, the second straight up, and the third looking north towards the Southern Alps. The visual experience was hypnotic, mind-blowing, intense, dusk-till-dawn.

Great images Mirko, must have been such an enjoyable light show to witness and from such a beautiful and scenic location.

Wow just incredible. What an experience but also some incredible skill to capture it too. I hope you’ve got space in your wall for some of those!

Great Shots.Yes there may be many pictures on the net but those posted here are always appreciated especially yours from NZ.
Cheers Derek
Thanks Jeff, we drove up from Dunedin because the weather forecast was marginal for home, and the storm was already in progress during the day with the Kp forecast predicting a sustained event. Combined with the sky quality inland that meant a great show at night was virtually guaranteed (Dunedin did end up seeing them too, but with some cloud in between). The first beams started to appear while twilight was still well underway, leaving our boys trembling with awe. They had never seen this before. Also, photographing the Southern Lights while looking north wasn't something I'd necessarily expect around here.
Thanks Dave, yes I need to look into printing some of this stuff. I my defense, I do look through my archives often.
Thanks Derek, I think the S hemisphere, while usually underrepresented, actually had some of the best spots for this (as evidenced by the great images posted by other members), given the shortening/non-existent nights around the arctic circle right now.

Beautiful images Mirko. Your 10 degrees extra south latitude really delivered a mesmerising and very different event to mine.
Congratulations

Beautiful, subtle "feels like I am there" shots, lovely.
Mike
Thanks Joe, I actually sacrificed a degree-and-a-half by going north, but the clear skies made up for that. The trip you took yourself was totally worth it though too with amazing images, and a great experience as a reward. I hear the weather was pretty ordinary in most places in Aussie.
Thanks Mike, much-appreciated.
