I've been having the usual astrophotography dramas with telescope, mount, software and (of course) the weather but finally have enough data collected to finish off my prawn nebula capture. Some of the processing looks a bit heavy handed, but interested in peoples thoughts.
final stats are:
ha: 50 x 300s
oiii: 24 x 300s
sii: 27 x 300s
GSO 250mm Newtonian
ZWO OAG-L
Baader 6.5 narrow band filters
ASI2600mm
CEM 70
Taken from my backyard suburban Melbourne
Mix of 1/2 to full moon

Mark,
Excellent image of the Prawn , some really good fine detail and love the dark regions too.
I have to be honest the yellowish colour is not my favourite, I prefer the typical Hubble golden tans with blues and cyan etc..,
Glad you sorted your star issues
Well done !!

Hi Martin - interesting comment - here is the original "pure" balanced SHO version...

Thanks - I wish I knew what was different!!!!

Hmm…… but your data set is weighted 2:1:1 disproportionate ( Ha dominant)
I don’t use PS or PI
I use Startools which has a mapping matrix with up to 20 or so SHO blends
Maybe the Sii exposure on the Prawn needs to be significantly more than Ha ??
Anyway take my yellow comment with a grain of salt ( only my opinion as I dislike yellow in Astro images )
I’ll have to capture the Prawn and see what I can drum up
Your image is still excellent!!
Cheers

a new colour process has come to mind - this may suit people who don't like the yellow...

Mark,
Colour is always subjective, there no right or wrong but many folk tend to steer towards historical or traditional colours that Astro images portray, particularly in Narrowband. However in saying that there’s nothing wrong with going a bit left field.
I liked your original image but thought the yellow was a bit “non traditional” OMI
I do like this latest palette which portray’s the stereotypical golden hues in SHO renditions

Nice one 👍

Yep that’s my favourite of the lot. Nice pallet and I reckon the detail pops a little more too. Good stuff!
