Hello all you astro folk,

I hope you are all doing well.

Please take a look at my version of M78, taken over 2 years, using data from 2022 and 2024.

I have posted a warts and all version so if you go to the bottom of the page you can view the original size.

Details are with the image, enjoy the view.

That’s very nice! The subtle colour variations are really well revealed. Great streusel in the dust clouds too. Great work

That's great Graham, a mighty fine two years work! :D

Just curious and it's not a critisism, the corner stars look a little donutty, especially the semi fainter ones, is this the optics or maybe an effect caused by the star rounding in Blur exterminator or similar? It's only noticeable at full res.

Great to see you imaging again

Mike

Thank you, Retrograde! :D

I appreciate your time to view and comment!

Hi Mike,

Yes, it is strange, I did notice it too, only after I posted it. It almost looks as if they are out of focus.

If I get some time this weekend, I will take a look at the raw data to determine the cause.

I did say that the full res was warts and all though!

Cheers mate! :)

Nice one has been on my list for ages but can never seem to get a good result :)

Thanks Trevor! :D

I find that it is a challenge because of the location in the sky, time of year, and temperature/seeing.

Keep trying!

Finally got around to repairing the stars.

Found the problem to be the Star De-Emphasiser Script.
