Crater Maurolycus taken late last year.
Maurolycus is named for Italian mathematician, Francesco Maurolico (1494-1575). He was a colleague of bad-boy painter, Caravaggio, and correspondent with the Jesuit astronomer, Christopher Clavius.
Barocius - Francesco Barozzi (1537-1604) was another Italian maths whiz and sorcerer:wink2:. Apparently he was a fan of Nostradamus among others.
Baco, the Latinised form of Roger Bacon (1214-1294) was an English friar and expounder of some of the earliest work on the scientific method.
Gemma Frisius (1508-1555) was known for his excellent map making and set the standard for the "Golden Age" of Navigation in later years.
Walter Goodacre (1856-1938) was a British amateur astronomer who served as Director of the society's Lunar Section for 40 years!
Ideler, named for German chronologist and mathematician, Christian Ludwig Ideler.
