Meteor cam

I'm considering installing a camera on my roof to record the skies 24/7, but not as a live stream (ie no connection to the internet whatsoever). Would any webcam do? I'm hoping to be able to capture bright meteors and the changing skies, but nothing in too much detail. Just for fun

You'll need a low light camera, something like a GStar.

You should also consider GMN... (software is free).

You don't have to be on internet (except for s/w updates) but it is advisable because you can monitor events from remote location.
The system runs on Raspberry Pi (Linux).. Windows version is available as well but with some limitations (for now, I think).

It's either an alien freighter or Starlink satellite network.

Nothing else unusual sighted, I was hoping to catch some sort of UAP, but alas.......
I've also spent a lot of time looking at 1420 Mhz for signals at the Hydrogen line, but... also nothing.

FWIW I have installed my two Ecowitt HP10 weather cams, and the verdict is they are of no use for astro work. Not sensitive enough. As a daylight weather cam, they are fine. At $45 each I can't complain, but I thought it might be worth a test for astro/aurora work.
