Multiple CMEs struck our magnetic field last Friday. Here are a few shots taken from Home Dune between 12.00 and 1.00am NZDT Saturday morning. Backyard sky going nuts. Most features & colours an aurora can show were present at some point, except Steve. His cousin, SAR, was there though. The oval was very bright (diffuse shadows on the ground) and close this time. The entire southern half of the sky was ablaze. A couple of shots right at zenith showed we were almost under it.

6D and 14 f/1.8 Art. FoV about 104°x81°

Must have been a wonderful display and a joy to witness, I'm jealous now. Entire SE of Oz was clouded out, again, so didn't see a thing even though I knew it was coming.

Thank you all. One of the best displays in a long time, for sure. Glad I looked outside before going to bed around midnight - where the intense green said, 'no you're not'.

The weather is often rubbish here, especially this time of year, but stuff like this makes up for it. Yes, Aussie looking a little better tonight weather-wise, hope you'll get something. Tonight it's our turn with the cloud...

Many more opportunities! Solar max has yet to happen, and is expected to be more intense than the last one. Also, we're looking forward to our trip to Tassie!

Now that's a place I need to see, preferably with some crunchy snow under a pair of narrow skis.
