I guess it illustrates graphically, in palpable real life, the countless similar tragedies that happened in combat, just like this, that were never caught on film, many tens of thousands of young men lost their lives like this or into the ocean....:(

Very sad accident that should not have happened. I think the investigation will show not only bad planning by the organisers but also unnecessary risk taking. The P63F was supposed to turn much tighter and stay on the inside lane but also be quite a bit later to enter the straight pass well after the B17 pass.

I’ve always loved warbirds. It’s time we ask ourselves, for the sake of future generations should we continue to fly these magnificent craft? We need to keep these historical treasures in tip-top flying condition, however I don’t believe it appropriate we fly these magnificent machines.
It’d be a priceless gift, if generations into the future could hear the mighty engines roar. Flying them, in particular in the high stress enviros of an air show is imho inappropriate.
For what it’s worth that’s my opinion and I recognise the arguments in keeping them flying.

Planning and situational awareness can minimize issues but accidents will happen. Formation flying and aerobatic displays are spectacular, but I watch with trepidation. No one is infallible and equipment may fail. Perhaps the fighter banked in apparent clear air, totally unaware of the bomber in the blind zone below. Mark
