Looks like some interesting spot activity coming around the corner...

yeah, i noticed some sun spots coming around the side today while observing. i was going to take some pictures but the cloud rolled in before i had a chance. there the first sunspots i've seen for a while.

A big sunspot is emerging over the sun's eastern limb, posing a threat for significant solar activity. Already it has unleashed several M-class solar flares. One of the eruptions, an M3-flare on June 1st, caused a shortwave radio fadeout over Europe. Amateur astronomers with solar telescopes should keep an eye on this photogenic sunspot, while shortwave radio listeners should be alert for flare-triggered fadeouts and other propagation effects.

You do realise Paul that all the cloud and rain we've had on the Coast of late is simply the standard result as predicted by Newton's Modified Law ("For every Astro purchase there is an equal and opposite burst of cloudy skies") brough on by all that purchasing you did a while back!

I don't know of anyone else around the area here that has been making any astro related purchases lately ..... nor do I know of anyone packing the 4wd and heading bush for a week camping at a nice dark site with said new gear.

The Planetary Imaging Camp here in Victoria started yesterday and goes for 10 days! Maybe that's the cause :scared:

I have been able observe o'l sol for the last few days. Yesterday I counted
7 proms with a couple of detached proms. Very nice view, looking forward to
todays entertainment.

I just had a quick squiz through the PST. Looks like a very interesting group of spots. I have to say it's the best solar observing conditions I think I've experienced so far - very clear and steady. Perhaps there's less thermals around this time of day and year.

I'd like to have a go at imaging, but I have to be at a Christening at 11... afterwards there's a BBQ but I might slip the PST in the truck just in case the opportunity presents itself for another look! Besides, someone else at the BBQ might like a look!;):D

Just had a look and it is looking very good thru my 70mm refractor.
And now i have found out that my right eye is getting worse (like i see less and less color with it) so looks like viewing with my left eye from now on :(

Looks like it's cloudy and wet here till after the long weekend:sadeyes:. I just hope that it pours if it's gonna be cloudy!:thumbsup:

We've been lucky here Al, and it's been interesting to watch the group evolve. New group forming as well. My images aren't great I'm afraid, but the attached shows the differences between Monday & today (Thursday), along with SOHO MDI Continuum comparative images, within a few hours of my images. Hope you get to see the show before they disappear!

Here I am staring out of the office window lunch time Friday - sky as blue as blue over Brissie and not a cloud in sight:D And where is my newly purchased Coronado:shrug:
Yes at home - been in its box for over 2 weeks now..... anyway:) maybe this weekend is the one:thumbsup: PLEEEEEESE SUNSPOTS, dont go away:lol:
