ioptron cem 70 alignment with asi air

quick question as my pointing is way off as is my PA. If I use the gps on the hand set of the cem 70 then go to ASI air pro- should I have the hand set DST turned off as it seems my pointing is off? Also the manual states point North so I pointed South-?

With my CEM70 +AA, I do a rough South Pole alignment with a compass, then run AA polar alignment (PA). This gives me great results.

Hi mark do you stop dst on the handset ? I’ve read somewhere you should do as the asi air does its own gps ??

First up I assume by "the manual states point North so I pointed South" you mean the direction you point the axis of the mount? If so, yes, point it south.

Do you have a laptop handy when you are doing this? If you do I would just use the inbuilt iPolar camera and the laptop to do the polar alignment (You could refine it later with the AA if you want to but I find the iPolar good enough for 1100mm focal length)

I don't have an AA so I cant comment on it specifically, but you do not actually need to plug in the handset at all when imaging using a PC, it can take a little longer for the GPS to sync up but that is about the only impact I have seen. I normally plug mine in anyway as the first thing I do when I power the mount on is use it to do a "Seek home"

I changed my polar alignment of mount to be more South than declination South (corrected) so lets see what happens...

Since I am using the AA, I don't use any of the features of the CEM70 handset and dont have it plugged in. Do you need to use the handset?

My view of the SCP is partially obstructed by trees and the ioptron polar scope does a decent job of getting me roughly lined up.
