The Music of the Night...

How many folks here play music?


And more importantly, do you play while the telescope, mount and camera are whirring away before you?


I'm an old Clarinet player from way back, and more recently I've returned to the guitar (acoustic, not electric) and have been experimenting with resonator guitars. With both instruments, I'm a folk / blues kind of person. But every now and then, if the skies are clear and I've got everything set up correctly :rolleyes: I sit back while imaging is taking place, and strum a few chords, or play something soulful on the Clarinet. I'm not a virtuoso on either, but it's a great way to relax.

Hi Warren,

I am not a musician but started learning to play guitar during the covid lock downs in 2021, sometimes when using the telescope for imaging, i set up the scope 1st, a 12inch Meade LX200gps with ZWO ASI071MC camera and when all is going well i grab the guitar and play. The guitar is a Maton Messiah EM100C and I have an amp, looper and a few effects pedals.

There are a few musicians, music teachers and instrument makers among the members of iceinspace.

One day I hope to be able to play the guitar well, I just need to spend less time working and more time on the guitar and scope.

Good onya Warren, you've exposed yet another of my eccentricities. Note the resonator mandolin, 100% aluminium, and made not very far from you. I haven't included pics of my 7 doodlesacks, as the neighbours do complain if they get played after dark (even though the nearest is about 500m away.) The Uilleann pipes are quite often a night favourite though! And there is a dedicated MP3 stereo in the Astroshed, but the Obsy is mute so I can keep an ear on the MI250 (not trusting after an over-run and collision recently!)

JA, that's a nice little performance. Reminded me a little of Anthony Warlow in the role at a couple of points.


Boozlefoot, apart from my standard acoustic, I also have a spider cone resonator and a biscuit resonator as well. Neat little music room you have there.

Thanks so much Mike, I'll pass that on. We would have loved for Steven to keep going full time with his singing, but now a few years on as a 24 year old, he has a taste for $ and is now an associate/ financial advisor, although there is some talk he may go back to some part-time singing in musical theatre or lounge/Jazz.

He's very talented JA!
The ability to sing doesn't exist in my family, on top of that my son is 80% deaf.
If I start singing to songs in my car I've been known to try and throw myself out to get away from the noise..Not good when I'm driving.
