I am fascinated with APOD and saw the incredible video of the moons of Jupiter. I was compelled to contact you. My first reaction was that it was a Hubble shot, from the gorgeous clarity of the seeing. I own a Celestron 8, and the 'seeing' here is abominable. I hardly ever use it. The seeing in NSW must be second only to outer space! (compared to suburban NYC)

ALSO---COMET McNAUGHT!!!---you lucky so and so's!! The cometary apparition of a lifetime! Hale-Bopp was a thrill in the dark skies of the country side here. I demanded an encore. It was your turn!

Mike Salway and his cute little crew are my kind of humans. If I ever get off my duff and fly 10,000 mile to Australia, I'll look you guys up (I'll bring the Dobro). 11 hours in a jet is daunting!

PS--the website presentation is beautiful!

:welcome: Joe! Don't go away, stay around and let's hear a lot more from you. I can only agree - I discovered IIS late last year and am loving it here.

Yep, Mike S has taken the occasional good little photo ;).

11hr is nothing. Aussies regularly do 20 hr plus in two legs from the SE coast to Europe! Try it. We'll have the welcome mat out for you.

Eric :)

ps. Australia has innumerable dark sky locations - a world light pollution map shows this, especially relative to North America and Europe!
