Don't be put off by the almost full moon!

The seeing is great around Sydney area tonight, and it's only 7.9deg :)

The GRS has just begun its transit, get out there and look for it!

Well glad someone has clear skies. In Sydney itself it's cloudy (at least in my part of it). Odd break but not worth going out. Enjoy Mike. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Wouldn't have to be brilliant to improve on the last few nights!

Just taken the Newt out for a squiz and even straight out it does look promising.

Its clouded out here.

Goddamn, where did these clouds from!?

You jinxed it Greg! :) I had stopping imaging for 5 minutes to fix the balance on my newt (the planet was wobbling too much) and when I fixed it and looked up, high clouds and fog!

I can still see Jupiter but transparency has gone right down and grain has gone right up :(

Bugger - I was just glad someone had clear skies. Sorry. At least you got some time in tonight.

Rain here and I can see distant lightning!

Contrary to what AccuWeather is claiming, Melbourne has 95% cloud cover. But it's that beautiful patchwork quilt effect - the Moon and occasionally Jupiter shines through. I'll grab a point and shoot digital and see if I can capture the beauty of it.

ps. Scope stays under wraps

A large sucker hole has opened up, allowing me to capture a few more..

Io has come out from behind Jupiter, and the GRS is about 1/3 of the way across.

Well, at the risk of embarrassing myself (more than usual), here's what I got.

Moon behind beautiful cloud
Moon, Jupiter & Cloud

OK, tragic hand-held several second exposure single shot (the full zoom for the second one in particular made it a mess), but you get the idea. It's a beautiful sight.

Well the sky is nice and clear still, but the seeing has deteriorated :(

I'll give it another 30 minutes and then head off to bed, planning to get up early for Mars again.

Just got in from a reasonable Jove imaging session.

Seems to be a very thin cloud haze around. Better than the cloud cover of an hour earlier.

Got about a dozen AVIs.

Will have a quick look and see what's there in terms of quality.

At least I know I caught the GRS transit and Io nearby.

Will post a quick Regi image shortly.

Go Panthers!!! Go Panthers!!!

And we beat Manly. It don't get much sweeter than that, m'friend:D

Although it looked a bit grim in the last 15 minutes. There were a lot of tired boys out there just hanging on.

Hey. A win's a win.

Let's hope the boys have turned a corner for the season.

Blimey Matt, all the cloud must be down my end then. Cant see anything over here.
Congrats on the Panthers from a Manly supporter:sad:

Patchy cloud here so far tonight, Ric.

I managed to catch a 20-minute break before it clouded over again about 20 minutes ago.

Nah – not me; I’m not getting tricked for the 3rd night in a run! Afternoon - clear blue skies with the odd fluffy cloud on the horizon. Sunset and all is clear. Drag all the gear out. Have the evening meal. Step outside. 100% cloud cover.

Stuff this for a game of soldiers, I’m taking up marbles or knitting.

Cheers

Dennis

Dennis, i know exactly what you mean.
It looks nice, but clouds on the horizon not sure weather to setup or not. Oh the pain.

Hi all, I 'm new in here. Have receently moved to Melb & am wanting to know if there are any good dark sky spots close by. I'm east at Mulgrave. Looking outside just now & it's nice & clear. Would love to get the old girl out.
Cheers, Bryan

Clouds gone, jetstream clear should we go out? The toucam is here but I have got the wrong mogg adapter, i got the W900NC-TF Doh!

It's looking good here too Fahim but it's cracker night and next doors kids are letting them off all over the place. I'm not going to risk gunpowder burns on the corrector plate or worse from a waywood rocket.
There will be other nights.

Hope you have a great nights viewing down your way.

I will wait till about 10 when Jupiter is getting higher up. I have found a film can and might try my hand at a makeshift adapter.

Sky is clear here too, i'm so buggered from the weekend but am in Jupiter imaging withdrawals!

I don't think the seeing is likely to be good even with the lack of jetstream, that Low system is surely still going to influence things.

Sky is clear up at Rocky have the camera cooling right now
hope no clouds roll in.

Hmm yes the stars are very twinkly at present, and a cloud bank is forming on the horizon. I wanted to get in a practice run on Jupiter for next weeks transits. I will wait and see what develops.
