Hi , I am wondering if there are any star partys in the South Island of NZ during September as we'll (Family) be touring around then , in a self contained camper so accomodation won't be a problem. I won't be bringing the 10" dobby but the Bino's are already packed!!:D
We'd love to get to know the locals under a dark sky.
Cheers Zubenel.

Not sure if there are many mainlanders on this forum, but there is probably a good reason for that...

Seriously though...
Personally I do not know of any star parties, but there will no doubt be dark sky viewing in Chch or Dunedin at their respective observatories.
West Melton in Chch is a pretty good site. Check out CAS at http://www.phys.canterbury.ac.nz/cas/ E-mail them directly should help.
Good luck, and enjoy the southern vistas.
The Auckland society has a star party in September (7-9th) at Waharau if your going to be up this way. Check it out http://www.astronomy.org.nz/aas/pub/waharau.asp
Cheers

 your prejudices are showing Robby. The Canterbury Rugby teams do have a right to exist. :P

Spent many good years in Dunedin, so love the mainland, but no the Canterbury rugby team still does not have a right to exist! :D

We know Australia simply as the west island. :) Actaully many kiwi's don't actually know of Australia, but rather just west island, or out west somewhere...
Enjoy your visit.
