Calamari and Comet for starters

Comet C/20223 E1 (Atlas) meets The Squid (Ou4) and The Bat Nebula SH2-129. Imaged Remotely from Spain with the Tak Epsilon 130ED and the asi6200mm pro
Exposure times were 75x 120s in each RGB filter 36x 300in Ha and 125x 300s in OIII. The comet was passing by in the early hours on the 30th of July 2023.
Those who have imaged this part of the sky will know what a challenge it is to do, this took me several iterations to before I was happy it. Processed in Pixinsight and Photoshop.*

That's a cracker Pete, unique looking region, I can imagine it would be a challenge to process well but the squid always imparts a 3D look, very nicely done :thumbsup:

I don't know where to look.. and that's a good thing! There is so much here.
The main objects are spectacular, but I actually love the starfield the most. That's so well processed. Stunning work.

Thanks Mike. The Squid was only discovered relatively recently, completely invisible only to the OIII filter and even then extremely faint, Quite a desirable object up North.

Thank you... Its quite an unusual object and a challenge to pull out the Squid...

Thank you...the whole area and neighbouring objects are surrounded with dark nebula that you could point the scope pretty much anywhere and you'd still get a nice frame....

If I ever get to image northern skies this is one of the first things I'd point the scope at. Incredible object the squid.

Thank you...It really is bizarre, no one knew it was there until a French astrophotographer found it in 2011, so pretty recent

Thank you...and yes I am a Northerner and probably not the flavour of the month given the recent result in the women's world cup :P :eyepop: what too soon?? ;) I've been a member for quite a few years here really love the honest constructive nature of the Southern folk on the forum....This object does get really high in the sky for me in my garden but all of the wide field kit is in the observatory in Spain so was best suited for this job.
