Another 6 days of cloudy weather has gone by and the sun is barely recognisable. We may have missed an opportunity yesterday as we woke to thick fog that hadn't lifted by the time we had to go out and the sun had set before we returned. This morning was forecast to be clear but this time instead of low cloud (fog) we had comprehensive high cloud. It wasn't until about 11am that it suddenly looked as if the high cloud was dissipating.

We set up and found the seeing to be a bowl of jelly as could be expected at this time. It wasn't helped by a 58m/s jet stream and a 40km/hr north wind but the forecast is again looking dismal for the next week, so undeterred we did take some full disk images in Ha and 393nm, as well as some slightly closer Ha images using our 72ED. We combined four panels of these closeups into a mosaic to capture the centre latitudes of the disk. We were a little disappointed to find that we hadn't done a close up of the southern disk, as when we processed the full disk images there were some spectacular proms to be seen. What was also good to see on the full disk was a nice looping prom just north of west.
