Hi - I have for sale a classic and collectable 76.2mm Tasco branded refractor and original finder from the 60s-70s, manufactured by Astro Optical Industries of Japan.
This scope was actually the guide-scope atop my Tasco 20TE and originated in the US.
Optically the scope is just amazing-the clarity, sharpness and colour correction of this instrument is not only superb but legendary. I would invite anyone to see for themselves and test the instrument. The cosmetics of the optics are pristine - no scratches or blemishes
The tube has no dents but given its age and its original intent, it does have scratches and paint chips- the finder however is pristine throughout. The focus tube has some chrome chips missing near the draw tube friction lock but can be re-chromed if you prefer -but it is working flawlessly.
The scope is beautifully made, typical of the era and is commonly referred to as the Tasco 10TE or 15TE, depending on the mount that it was on, and sold during Tasco's quality scope heyday
This would be an ideal purchase for someone who is looking for a portable and affordable alternative to a similar sized or slightly larger apochromat - yes it's that good ! and BTW it completely outclasses a Polarex/Unitron of similar diameter and is sharper than a 'perfect' Takahashi 130mm reflector. I have to say it came close to challenging a FS102 only in terms of contrast
I am selling as I am downsizing my equipment and I have accumulated far too many over the last decade. I really have no wish to continue this as a guide-scope on top of the 20TE, as it would be doing this 76.2mm instrument an injustice.
I don't have a mount but I am including a set of tube rings which I have been mounting on an EQ6.
I have no idea of shipping costs but it does weigh 3.3 kg but can be picked up - The scope is located in North East Melbourne and I am happy to have it inspected.
I am asking $280 but make me an offer :)
