Help please!
One of the Bearings on my moonlight focuser has cracked
I have contacted them but no response as yet
Does anyone have an idea what type is required to replace them?
I might change all 4

These are the bearings that are used to guide the Focusing tube and are inserted into the focuser and held in with grub screw.
I have attached an image to show what they look like

Hi Nick,

If you take a sample to a good bearing shop, I would say they will have some on the shelf. This happened to me with another brand of focuser.

I haven't dealt with moonlite for a few years but they were always quick getting back to customer queries. Try again?

The ones Moonlite advised me to buy for my CS (same as CF) focuser were SR166ZZ Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings 3/16" × 3/8" x 1/8". I bought 8 from Allied Bearings (SSR166ZZ - same) and replaced the 4 about 2 years ago and they work perfectly. The others are kept as spares.

Ron also advised "The small shim washers go between the bearing and the body of the focuser.
There is just one shim washer-- nothing on the other side ( bolt head side)." The part number for these Flat Steel Washers is is W0050-FP-007-0010-S400.

Hmm... just looking at your focuser again and seems the bearing is held in place differently to mine in my pic. This may not matter as the SR166ZZ bearings are very common and also cheap. In the absence of any other advice from Ron, it might be worth getting them just try them or at least taking the cracked one to allied bearings and letting them decided if they are SR166ZZ.

Hope this helps.

All fixed
I went to Southern Bearings in Abbotsford guy was amazing he measured the one I had and did all the mental arithmetic in his head regarding the metric to imperial measurement then came out with the correct bearing. Scope works a charm, now for a clear night!!!!
