29th June ... It has been difficult to get any images of the Sun due to cloud and rain for a number of days. This morning there were still clouds but the occasional blue gap. I managed this image thru light cloud to show a large sunspot in the middle of the Sun's disc. I measured it at 125,000 km by 50,000 km in size. A large one for this cycle. Single exposure taken with a Canon 550d attached to a WO 81mm refractor with herschel wedge at 540 nm. Thanks for viewing.

Hi John,

Lovely images.
I got to see it with eclipse glasses this morning and then through the 72mm Evostar. Fabulous!
Will try for a close up shot on the weekend.

Richard :)

This abysmal weather is at least consistent. We've barely seen the sun for two weeks now. We almost managed an image of this AR but only just glimpsed it for a moment and the clouds were back. Well done capturing these images John. The most active the sun has been in years with the most clouds we've had in years ... what a co-incidence.
